A further excavation on the chapel site will take place from May 7 for two weeks, led again by Dr David Johnson. Phase 4, 2019, will investigate targets suggesting possible grave slots and curvilinear features identified in the ground penetrating radar and geophysical surveys. We also hope to address some of the unanswered questions arising from the 2017 excavation.
We have been very fortunate to receive funding for the project from several sources, which include:
The Yorkshire Archaeological and Historical Society: https://www.yas.org.uk
North Craven Heritage Trust: http://www.northcravenheritage.org.uk
The May Pickles Fund administered by Olicana Historical Society:
Malhamdale Local History Group: http://www.kirkbymalham.info
The Yorkshire Dales National Park Authority’s Sustainable Development Fund: http://www.yorkshiredales.org.uk/
This fund, which has enabled the project to continue in 2019 is open to individuals, businesses, community groups or voluntary sector bodies. It provides an accessible source of money for a range of projects that result in positive benefits for the National Park’s environment, economy and communities, while enhancing and conserving local culture, wildlife and landscape.
